+Vincent10 He is a centrist. First he fixes the economy by stimulating the business life. When the businesses bring in the revenue for the government, he gets to spend that money on the people. So yes, the modernising part is on the right side of the political spectrum, but when it bears fruit you'll see the left policy coming in. What France has done for years is embrace left policy while neglecting the economy, Macron is changing that.

+Jeff Kay Too bad it was America that ignited the Syrian civil war and indirectly caused the migrant crisis, not Europe itself. We don't control what others do, so we must protect ourselves and our borders. It's not as simple as "stop bombing them".

+jwang604 You're correct. Constitutional rights are almost never absolute. Rights don't just go one way, they go both ways. I have certain rights but only to the point where I start invading others' rights. For example, I have the freedom of movement to go wherever I want, but this freedom stops when I want to enter someone's house. It's the same for freedom of speech; I can say anything I want, until the point where my words seriously impact others (threat of violence, slander, etc.) or to the point where my words are unnecessary in a democratic society and damaging to it (hate speech and incitement of violence; it creates the risk of a split and unrest in society and threatens public order and even the safety of others). Only consitutional rights like the abolition of torture is absolute, but to Americans even that one has plenty of exceptions :)

Fixing the economy means investing in business. When business starts running and paying more and more taxes, the government can spend more and more on social welfare. Macron is a centrist and before the leftist side pops out, he has to get France's economy running
