Because for decades on end, people in America have been conditioned to believe these two things: - Socialism is literally evil and will always end up wiht gulags and mass starvation. - Anything proposing a bigger government is automatically Socialism. Bernie isn't even a Socialist, he's a Social Democrat like the countries in Western Europe. I.e. a capitalist with broad social security ideas.

  2.  @bigbirdmusic8199  It's true... I live in communist dystopia the Netherlands. I have healthcare with great coverage, but don't get fooled by the social policies they lure you in with. Most of my family dared speak up against the government and are now in gulag. With this comment I risk the same. Five years ago, the government had a plan to redistribute food and ended up starving a quarter of the population by taking away their food to give to others. Our situation is dire... don't believe Bernie, he wants to turn America into the communist dystopia that is Western Europe, with its universal healthcare, expansive social policies, higher quality of life rating, higher happiness ranking and more such abhorrent things.... You honestly have to be a moron to believe this nonsense. Bernie wants nothing more than to emulate the superior systems in Western and Northern Europe. Social Democracies consistently top all quality of life, happiness, healthcare, etc. lists. It is the superior system of government. The US has the riches to do the same, maybe to become the best country in the world to live in. The happiest nation on earth. The highest quality of life on earth. But no, that's "communism". You're bloody pathetic. Completely brainwashed by your corporate media, I'm sure.

  3. Dutchie here and to all those Americans reading this: this is also true for most of Western and Eastern Europe. These policies should be no-brainers in a rich country like the US. It's not without reason that Social Democracies across the world consistently top all quality of life, happiness and similar ratings. It's a great system that respects the basic needs of all, while still benefitting from the merits of capitalism.
