It's truly a tragedy. At least they have a past they can be very proud of.

@aaroncarolan820 Against? A Serb killed an aristocrat, then Austria had extremely unfair conditions for Serbia and took on a very warmongering stance. Serbia is not responsible for the actions of one national, especially not to the degree that Austria held them responsible, but they did take a bullet during WW1 as the country was basically destroyed. Austria started WW1, absolutely. It was their warmongering behaviour that escalated everything and they forced Serbia into war by using the assassination as an excuse. They probably wanted to use the assassination to cause a war and take all of Serbia for Austria-Hungary empire but it escalated a bit further than they hoped.

@eddiel7635 EU member states don't have to give up their militaries for an EU army, nor is that even a proposal. The proposal is an EU army that exists alongside national armies.

@jimbodimbo981 A vote of all or at least 2/3rds of member states to go to war would be good

@morpheussandman3984 EU can, but they refuse as long as they can comfortably depend on the US to defend them for free anyway. Big difference.

@hussey4826 *looks around* What Communists?

@felipevillalba9311 France in WW2 was still tired of WW1 and using hopelessly outdated tactics against revolutionary German tactics at the time. Today there is no such disparity in tactics and France is a lot more powerful compared to Germany now than it was then. WW2 was a fluke, it was an amazing feat by Germany that is highly unlikely to ever happen again.

@makky6239 Canadians are actually very good when in combat. They proved this in WW1 especially that they are a fierce bunch and exceptional fighters

@eddiel7635 We can make budget, just like we are currently expanding budgets of our national militaries, as a commitment to NATO. Look at it this way; we need a military of X size to defend ourselves, which costs Y money. Whether that money is spent nationally or pooled together in an EU defence fund doesn't matter for our eventual goals. In fact, pooling a part of it together may even be more efficient, financially. What equipment is bought, who decides when and where they're deployed and everything else is decided by all our leaders sitting in a room, voting on it. Doesn't seem that complicated.
