  4.  @kitt3813  The USSR contributed the most to the defeat of Nazi Germany, then the British empire and only then do we arrive at the US contribution. The US did more in the Pacific. In Europe they didn't do a damn thing until 1942 and even then contributed an abysmal number of soldiers until 1944. The US intention was to join only when an invasion of France took place, and that is what they did. Before that they were either not present or sent a smaller force like the other smaller powers. For example, even France (post defeat, Free French forces) did more than the US in North Africa and in Italy the British empire forces outnumbered the US contribution 3 to 1 (by comparison, post D-day the Americans and British had a 1,5/2 to 1 ratio). And that is not mentioning the naval element in which the British absolutely dominated and were by far the most important actor in Europe and the Atlantic. It's sad how Americans pull all attention to themselves and downplay what the Russians and British have done.

  7.  @ghaleon1047  Firstly, the US is not the icon of everything good, nor is it even good at all. I wonder whether it has been good at any time in history. Secondly, scientists and the SS? The SS was an elite paramilitary organisation within the Nazi government, it had nothing whatsoever to do with scientists. Josef Mengele, being both scientist and SS member, is very much an exception to the rule. The Germans that shaped the US (and probably USSR too, let's be honest) space programmes were highly likely not associated with any military organisation within the Nazi government, but merely worked on technology for the Nazis just as they worked on technology for the Americans and Russians. Thirdly, yes this still happens around the world sadly. But that is not because of "us" (whoever you are referring to with that), it is because of sadistic psychopaths who have been born with different mental conditions to the regular human being. Any normal human would never get into such acts, only extreme sadists would. And sadists are again an exception to the rule in our societies.
