As much as I see Vance as an idiot, he had a point in saying, you can't shoot values and values can't be shot. The thing is, in Europe, due to our misguided extreme embracing of environmentalist agenda, we've lost and are still losing key industries, because they are dirty and doing them in a clean way is so expensive, they're incapable of competing with... less environmentally friendly methods. As a result, these industries have fled from Europe to Asia (guess why China is no. 1 for green transition key materials processing and on so many industrial products) and since introduction of Inflation Reduction Act also to the US. We're beginning to stop making stuff, which is a problem, given we're mostly export oriented economies. Our defense industry is maybe more efficient than American one, but we can't produce top of the line things, because industrial stuff, particularly heavy industry, basically can't get funding in Europe, again on the grounds of it being dirty and unecological. Where Europe stands on the right side of history, is the rules based international order. Where we stand on the side is environmentalism, because that is outright destroying our production capacity. We must be able to protect ourselves and we can only achieve that, if we'll have enough industrial capacity to produce both for exports, to feed military economies if need comes, and to be actually able to produce stuff, both of which are exclusive with preserving the environment.
