  1. The field of study is the key. Sure, it's nice to learn just to learn (there are some universities, which will allow you to enroll in classes not related to your field), but if you can't apply it, it's worthless. Also, as someone who sent over 3000 resumes out while job hunting, I can tell, companies don't give a damn. Really, i feel, that these days, the best way is to go both. Learn a trade, come to an agreement with your employer and do school part time. Will also help you determine, whether the guy is worth working for.
