You're flat wrong man... It's not a supply/demand mismatch. The situation had been going on for years, if it were so, the makret would have compensated. You can even apply with degree completely tailored for a particular position and still get thousands of refusals. I'm in that boat. Earned a Bacherlor's in accounting and financial management, and it took me two years to get hired for my first accounting job. I brought in less than minimum wage on that position and had abusive CEO, who'm I had to work with. Well after that, I was struggling again for a year to get hired in a sh*t show of a place, stayed there a year and then left with nothing lined up, because it was so unbearable. I had to pivot into the executive club and after that into banking to keep the lights on. Hopefully, I'll manage to carve my self a place in this field, while AI is still in it's dipers and pivot again, once things go unteneble.
Bottom line is, when you have unfilled positions for long time, it's either never to be filled rack (something one major employer outright told me... guess the rep slipped), just to build up a database of people they could reach out to one day, or they have requirements that are completely insane given the state of the market, and they don't want to bring up people from within them selves.
