Make no mistake. Jumbos and superjumbos are not going anywhere anytime soon. Even if we move from hub and spoke model to peer to peer system, there will still be places, most importantly in Asia, where these huge jumbos will still fly. Airports can only have so many runways and by extension slots. Meaning eventually slot prices will go up as more and more planes will need to fly from those same airports and it is still cheaper to run these huge poppies than building a new airport. Think of routes to India and within India at the moment, runs between destinations like Delhi and Bangaluru or Mumbai. These megacities can fill even these behemoths on internal runs, much like Japan did the same with 747s back in a day.
