I think, you're reading it wrong. Defense spending is state spending and you know, how deep in debt Italy is. Your government got only recently put a handle on it and this threatens to start the mess all over again. Remember that high defense spending in Greece contributed to the Euro crisis, so trying not to become Greece II would be on any politician's mind. I actually think, they want to contribute without having to contribute, but that still leads to massive potential influx of money to Italy, particularly to companies that produce components. For instance I see no reason, why Brembo wouldn't produce breaks for Tatra, which in turn would produce truck chassis for for instance Rheinmetal to produce wheeled mobile artillery. I am sure, there are many more companies, that produce stuff for other industries at the moment, which could easily retool and refocus. Remember, when there is a gold rush, those who sell pickaxes get rich.
