Credit cards are not scary. There are these things called limits, which you CAN request be lower than what's usually offered. I hold two credit cards, one for my daily spend, that provides me 1% cash back (sadly, that's the best offer you can get where I live), but that is capped at my income - monthly wired expenses - investments and savings. As such, I have never been overdue on this credit card since I got it. The other is my travel credit card, which I used only for such expenses, that will be refunded to me within a month, say mom needs to buy some seed for her garden or dad needs some tools, or if I ever am sent on a business trip. Know what you can afford people and act accordingly! Outside of truly unexpectable stuff, (and no, car repair is not unexpectable. That is inevitable, the only question is when), credit cards are not your enemy, so long you use them right.
