  1. I really feel, that forcing people to stay at a job, when there is a disaster warning issued should be a federal crime with penalties severe indeed for both the manager and the owner. I'm not talking just some fines. I'm talking life in prison and loss of all possessions.

  2. This is not so black and white, unfortunately. In Czechia, your home has to be declared as your place of work, which come's with it's own regulation in terms of work safety (that's literally in the law. The employer must provide a safe working environment). This doesn't cover just serious stuff like "a piece of machinery fell on me, now I' don't have a leg.", but also "I write on a crappy keyboard, now I need new carpal tunnels!". Therefore, most employers prefer to provide openspace or offices in commercial buildings instead. So it ain't as simple as you might think. I wish it were... As an accountant, I too could do 80% of what I daily do at home, only coming to work to deal with payment orders twice a week.

  5.  @lazypioneer91  It's not that messed up and since law in EU is harmonized, I'd expect something similar to be in all the EU member states and the UK, given how recently they left. That law actually causes employers to care about employee's health. They would gladly put the cheapest and worst chairs in the office, if they could get away with it. If this didn't apply, they cloud get away with that by shifting to full remote positions, where ever possible and since all of Europe is shifting towards services, opportunities for this are only growing. That law was written in an era, when work was done at a factory and to some extent in an office (very few people were doing office jobs), not on the Internet, but that doesn't mean, it doesn't cover aspect of work from home, which the employers would gladly begin to abuse to lower their headcount costs.

  6. @Josiah Galicia That's not everything. As a cat owner, I can tell, that my productivity as an accountant would suffer a bit... Cats simply come, start studying the invoices and suddenly, I can't input them, cause kitty got exhausted and is now purring and sleeping and you dare not disturb a sleeping cat.
