Do you know, why stopping oil is impossible? Just look at how many products have some kind of non-energy use of oil in them! The number is somewhere in the mid tens of thousands! We quit oil, we'll go extinct over fertilizer, plastics, medicament shortages... and the list goes on and on. Even if we invested whole of global GDP into material research, we'd still need oil by the time we'd have Warp drive!
