Huh? What are you talking about? "Most insurance policies won't pay for the vehicle"? If you have "PROPER" coverage (insurance, G.A.P., etc), your vehicle will be covered/replaced. Now if you DON'T have "PROPER" coverage, then you would be screwed. It depends on what kind of insurance coverage you have. Ex- if you payed cash for the vehicle, and only got liability, then your vehicle wouldn't be covered, and that's a dumb move by you. If you CAN'T afford to pay cash for a replacement vehicle (God forbid you get in a wreck), than you should have full coverage (something a lot of people CHOOSE not to have).
