@olliwest7341 Wrong! Either way this guy is getting life or the death penalty. This is very very different, because this is the penalty phase. His life was over, after HE DID THIS AAAAAAAND PLEAD GUILTY (thankfully). His attorney showing compassion, didn't ruin/hurt his case, HIS OWN ACTIONS did that.

@jcarlovitch Actually, in a lot of cases, unless there's a conflict of interest when you're given a case to represent, you CANNOT just say "I don't want to take that case." I know this, because one of my good friend's father has been an attorney for over 50 years. It's not as easy to just tell a judge NO, when they assign you a client for a case like this. Their job is to represent them and do the best they can, no matter the situation.

@jcarlovitch Isn't this a public defender case???? I didn't think that Cruz "hired" attorneys...

@jcarlovitch I'm not sure where you live, but in WA state, all the attorneys I know, who have private businesses, still have to take "public defense" cases. Maybe it's different where you are. This is a smaller town, so maybe that's not the usual, but it works like a Round Robin system, with the actual public defenders office also included.
