I believe that they should offer citizen to people who are in our armed forces, before they offer citizenship to people who work as Farmers.
Back in 2002, they didn't offer this, but they are slowly getting better. Now, if you've been in for a year, you can "apply," but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Previously it was that you had to serve at least FIVE years and then you could "apply," but again that didn't mean anything.
I think that if you enlist for the regular 4 years or whatever the usual time in is, that you should be given citizenship. If you're going to go and defend this country, you should receive citizenship, but it needs to be a specific time, not just one year.
Now of course you should have to pass a background check and all that, but I would assume that that would happen prior to enlisting and then also when you apply.
Now, if they do something like that, with the military, I think that what you're talking about, is a good idea.
I think if somebody is given a green card and then works for 10 years in the U.S., and doesn't get in trouble, that they should be able to get citizenship.
There just needs to be some sort of a path.
