dnwjzu jsjsjs This wasn't an area where they could utilize less lethal. They didn't have the actual space for that, given where the guy was at. That's why it WOULDN'T have worked. In "some" cases it "might" work if somebody can get behind the perp or in a different place, but there was such a small area to utilize, that being able to use less lethal wasn't an option.

@RomeoMike22 Not in this case. There was NOT enough space. There was way too much obstructed space to utilize less lethal. IF they had done that in this situation, that would've meant NOT having somebody with lethal, and there just wasn't enough room for that. Read my other comment as well.

jwang604 You seem to forget where they were. There wasn't the room for that. There was also "NO CROSSFIRE" because of where he was located. Nobody else could see him except the main officer, female, and possible one behind them, who likely wouldn't have shot unless both the first two got shot. If the guy had dropped the weapon and ran at the officers, that would've just been an EXTREMELY stupid move on his part, and he would likely have gotten shot. They aren't going to take a chance and hope that he doesn't have another weapon at that point. You seem to forget that once somebody brandishes a weapon (especially a gun), that you either surrender and sit still, or things aren't going to end well for you. Especially in a situation like this, where there was such a small area. He was at the bottom of a VERY small stairway, that was completely surrounded by concrete, walls, a door and even a porch and stairway up above. There was only so much room in this exact situation, and trying to utilize less lethal wasn't an option. You don't take out an officer with lethal force and use less lethal, when you only have 2-3 officers with lethal that can actually see and hit the perp.

@yosour6733 They only use less lethal when there's actually the space and room for it. You can't utilize less lethal in a situation like this. You seem to have forgotten that the perp was at the bottom of the basement stairwell. The officers at the top had about a 3 foot wide space. You aren't going to take out a lethal officer in this situation and add less lethal. Tactically, it doesn't make sense for the safety of everybody involved. If you were able to have the eyes on the perp and more officers able to hit if necessary, then you would, but not in this situation.

@Big AL 311 Taser man also didn't have the room either, in this situation. I don't think he knew how small the area was until later (there was no way he could see the space they were actually dealing with and the fact that the perp was at the bottom of a basement stairwell), because you could tell he was upset at the end. But... Unfortunately in THIS situation, less lethal was NOT an option. Some people just don't understand how less lethal works and ALWAYS try to make it out to be the officers fault. They just don't have a clue about how getting lined up works... Especially in a situation like this, when there's only like a 3x3 ft area for the officers to be in.

Driver 1967 You're right. Officers are finding that with people who are either on drugs or high, that a taser doesn't usually work. Not to mention, if they have baggy clothes on and the prongs can't actually get through the clothes and pierce the skin, it's ALSO useless. There are plenty of videos for people to watch where tasers fail and the perp keeps advancing towards the officer. Then... Once less lethal is finished being used and no longer an option, they have to switch to lethal, because they don't have a choice. They are NOT going to go hands-on with a perp, and hope they can win and/or the perp doesn't grab their weapon. So many people think that utilizing a taser is the answer, but until they make things better, they really AREN'T a great tool, because they have such a high rate of failing.

@lemonsqweezy9532 Yeah, they SAID it was empty, but it "OBVIOUSLY" wasn't, because the guy ended up shooting himself in the mouth. 🙄 There was no room for it's lethal in this situation. Where would he have stood? In place of one of the ONLY THERE lethal officers??? You seem to have forgotten that there was an extremely small area, considering that the perp was at the bottom of a stairwell, with a door, concrete surrounding him, and then stairs and a porch/deck above him.

@CThyran Right? And this was a perfect example of what happens when the gun "isn't loaded." The Perp ends up shooting himself in the mouth with an unloaded gun... Weird how that can happen isn't it. 🙄 Some people either don't understand, don't listen, or don't have a brain....

@jacobaddis2644 There were 3 that could see him and actually hit him. You aren't going to take a lethal out, and substitute it with less lethal in this situation, leaving only 2. You are also forgetting that this guy had the gun to his head, and then in the end, his mouth, so you aren't going to have somebody tase him. You're going to try to talk him out of it. Hence all the "Put the Gun down." If there had been more room and possibly a place where they could've "SAFELY" tased the guy, that may have been an option, but not in this situation.

@dtoge I'm wondering that as well. At 5:54, you can hear the guy with the taser actually talking and calling somebody else Sarge. I was trying to see if there was another guy with a taser, because of that comment. It's hard to tell if he's also a Sargeant because I can't see any type of badging showing he is.

@p8triotmode Agreed! He was definitely in a bad place in his life. We'll never know what exactly was going on. The only positive we can take away from this, is the fact that nobody else was hurt. There are many situations like this where people take a hostage, like an ex girlfriend, friend, child, stranger, etc., so at least that didn't happen. 💔
