The only reason he said this, was to cover his ass and make himself look good, because he knew he was sabotaging an innocent man and colluding with the Democratic Politicians, the W. Blower (who he definitely knew, but lied about knowing)!
He made this comment about his father, just like Romney did with his Religious IMPEACHMENT speech. It was to gain "poor me," comments, and everything like that.
There is a lot more coming out!
Vindman is NOT this perfect military personnel like everyone think... Even in the IMPEACHMENT hearing, Vindman's own "co-workers," spoke negatively about him and talked about things he'd been doing wrong. Anybody can go and listen for themselves.
Not to mention, Vindman had already been scolded in the past for talking shit about America and Americans, to Russians... Now THAT is super messed up!

As someone who's lost their Father (when I was only 20, from a massive heart attack), what he did, is NOT something a genuine , truthful , person does...
What he did right there, was a tactic, to pull at EVERYONE'S heart strings.
For MANY MANY People, it worked.
I do NOT believe him.
I've watched his testimony many many times (not just this little snippet, the 3 hour one), and I strongly urge you to think about what he just did and said. This is a trial, people do NOT, talk about these personal things in a trial, UNLESS .... they are trying to detour and deflect from something else, and gain sympathy.
That's EXACTLY what he did.
You should NEVER use your DECEASED parent, for something like this. This was simply a ploy to gain sympathy, nothing else!
He is supposedly a VERY decorated military official, THAT right there, should be enough for his testimony, and for "his words," to have value.
Unfortunately, he knows he lied and was deceitful in many ways. In order to combat that, he knew he needed to do something major to counteract that... just bring up your deceased, father, who left behind EVERYTHING HE EVER KNEW, in search of a better life for you and your family.
So not okay. You NEVER use a dead person, to help fight a battle that you played unjustly!
