Less density of population, more cultural distancing and acceptance of government recommendations helped. Still Sweden was less successful than their Scandinavian neighbors, a better comparison Florida obscured and manipulated data. Since California had many ignoring mandates and a much larger population, dismissing initial lockdowns is questionable, especially when so much was unknown. It appears that a combination of distancing, masks, vaccines, limits on crowds and limiting travel can work without some of the most extreme measures. Examples include New Zealand and Taiwan.
