  20. I really want to help save our dear Brits, it’s tragic watching what’s happened and help give them support to fight back as much as possible. So many are having conflicted feelings of believing they’ll never have their country back, and they need to know how their culture has inspired the fighting spirit that we Americans have to give credit to. I mean, their national animal is the bulldog, a unicorn, a dragon, a pike, the lion, and even their national bird symbol defines their fighting spirit: the robin. Seriously, people don’t realize the determination and scrappiness of robins, they are the few birds able to fight off bigger birds, very protective of their home, and are the only small birds who don’t migrate for winter. And looking into British history, really these animals sum up the Brits knack of defying the odds, it kills me so many don’t make this connection. Down to thinking their culture never had the same patriotism we Americans had, historically that is false, for centuries Europeans kingdoms had a big enthusiasm to bring out a rally of support for their country. And through it, it’s what created the society to be motivated to build what we see of the old cities and towns of Europe. With that it created influence for their neighbors to try to create their own success, that there was a drive to prove who had the best way to demonstrate they have the best country, it was a healthy environment of competition that sparked ages of innovation, science, arts, and on that made Europe leaps ahead of the rest of the world. Not that other regions of the world didn’t have their own advanced societies, but there is something about the European culture that carried weight to its influences. Our European, especially the British, counterparts need to recognize this so that they can seize this opportunity to learn to take the initiative again and go back to being European again. This globalist ideology didn’t look good on us, it doesn’t look good with the Europeans, doesn’t work in general and should stay away from any civilization.

  30. I live on the west coast in a region of California that has been left behind, sone of this measurements will likely be stalled even though this region has been more conservative since Reagan was first elected president. And the unfortunate part is my region is severely neglected and we’ve always been behind California, most of California doesn’t know we exist, so economically we were never given a chance to develop a stronger economy. On top of that, we deal with a lot of the wilderness issues, mainly a lot of forest fires, enough that one fire damaged over 1000 structures, mainly homes. As a result we just have a lot of ugly buildings, as most of our older buildings were not preserved well, and we had been growing since the 60’s that contributed to a lot of contemporary modern buildings. I’ve always been jealous of other regions, whether it’s San Francisco or the New England region, or even Europe and the British architecture cause they have no idea how demoralizing these buildings have been to the spirits. I’m jealous of the traditional Japanese architecture! It’s been such a pain cause as much as my region is conservative, they are stingy about architecture cause they don’t want to pay for it, and we can’t afford it cause it’s not an inviting space to have that optimism to bring in optimistic people to start businesses. It would be nice to bring some craftsmanship to some of these suburban towns to give some life back to the space, something classic that will be timeless. New is only good when it’s new, when it ages it doesn’t have the same appeal as an item meant to be everlasting. So jealous of the architecture around the world.

  37. @14Anon2 I think traditionally island nations have their own separate identity that makes it unique to the larger land mass that island shares the continent region from. Along with the tension the Brits have with the French they acted as gatekeepers to the European continent, this has historically put the British with the label of the black sheep of Europe. This actually turned out to be a blessing at the Brits had to learn to be more resourceful and rarely could rely on others to look out for them. Thus the Anglo culture encouraged a society of free thinkers, going against the status quo compared to most other European countries, managing to find the upper hand. However because of technology that makes it possible to travel easier, the distance doesn’t have the same space in time required to have a national unity in a region that reflects differently from a different region. Seeing as the Brits went to the EU after the fall of their empire, adapting ways to stabilize, in a time when modern technology allowed a Brit to not have to wait a whole day to skip over the channel and could reach like Italy in a plane ride that would take less than half the day, most younger Brits are therefore going to have a connection to the neighboring land mass continent under a union with flexible borders. Many really don’t have anything to anchor them to the British island to have that connection to their heritage. Whereas what makes it interesting with the Brits is that they played a role in the world as an empire. One interesting theory I’ve heard recently about the relationship of an empire and their colonies is that the colonies almost act as a time capsule of the empire’s culture and societal norms that over time develop their own take. From the time the English first settled in the new world, started with the first Queen Elizabeth but was established in King James I’s name, to when we separated the British empire during the age of the Enlightenment period, the American culture retains some of the British influence into the foundation of our country. In between those periods, there was a lot of highs and upheavals that American colonists learned from, and was given the opportunity to implement their own take in forming the colonies. The thing is this separation happened almost 250 years ago, and in the current era where events are happening so fast (again thanks to technology) and while many Americans who understand our history have understood the significance of the heritage we have in the British culture, we have adapted to a whole plethora of other cultures on top of our foundations to the average Brit that don’t have the extent knowledge of their own history, it looks foreign. The funny thing is that during WWII, the gain of trust between the two nations fighting side by side had allowed our countries to put their differences aside to seeing there is a deep shared values that bonded the two countries. So much so, a lot of GI Joe’s brought back a lot of British women that it encouraged a wave of modern British culture to impact the American societies. So there’s a unique position that the British were the ones to help lay the foundation of our society, but to have an impact on it during the last century. However as the British empire was being dissembled, the average Brit just veered towards Europe and losing any sense of being the black sheep and connecting to the area that is easier to reach. What makes it worse of what I’m realizing is how too many foreigners have taken American culture at face value, never do the research into understanding what created this country beyond ā€œa culture of immigrants built it,ā€ it’s frankly really depressing. Our country had the structure of the British’s black sheep projection that was essential to help establish the settlements in an unknown land and ocean away. Good comparison to ask is why is it that the Anglo countries, till they got infected by globalists, managed extraordinarily well compared to the other colonies of other empires? The answer is the Brits have created a unique culture to hold their leaders accountable and to have Common law be implemented. These aspects could not have originated from anywhere else but an island nation close to a civilization that looked down on them while squabbling on their own island to eventually create a movement to advance their society into their own take of civilization that turned out to be stronger when the values are centered about individualism and self responsibility to help improve people. Hopefully this clarifies that the special relationship doesn’t mean on our end that the Brits are a vessel state. Most of us are earnestly hoping that you are able to fight back to get your country, it’s why Americans must be careful to not liberate our fellow Brits, as much as we want to. If we want to see the UK rise up, this means that we have to let it be done on YOUR terms. At the end, it is your country and heritage, most Americans only have a fraction of it, but that fraction is dear to us more than many can recognize. The British are not a vassal state, the British have demonstrated they have might, it makes me want to throw a history book at the wallowing Brits lol. To us Americans, the Special Relationship means the recognition of kinship between the two nations. The reality though is that we were the ones left standing in the west, and we stepped in to help keep the world stable to prevent another world war, we at least were able to topple the Soviets, we gave protection to the world to participate in global trade in peace, therefore the interests of our nation was overlooked at times. I mean come on, Trump NOW just signed an executive order to release all the information of the assassination of JFK, RFK, and MLK, OVER 50 YEARS since those events occurred. We still don’t even have a real understanding of 9-11. With that, I hope that our countries could rekindle our relationship. At this point though, Americans are just too unrecognizable for the British to connect with. It’s going to make it harder to try to restore the west when one of the crucial countries involved in shaping western civilization have lost their sense of individualism that they uniquely created and instead embraced a more globalist mentality.

  39. I think of it more as it speaks to how certain events affect different people as they age. Take events like 9/11 as every generation alive at the time have various yet shared understanding of such events. Like the Boomers were likely the generation that had friends and family impacted, Gen X similar but perhaps not as much as the Boomers as they were in their young adolescence yet were aware and they were the ones who likely took on military roles to serve their country. Millennials (speaking for myself) is a mixed bunch as many of us do remember this event and have it in the back of our minds while a lot of other Millennials likely blanked it out as they had a hard time comprehending it as it was something that we still don’t have all of the answers to this day. Or there was the number of Millennials that were raised in a bubble their parents created so that these Millennials never have to feel any stress (ironic how that turned out.) Then we look and examine how the Greatest and the Silent generation looked on with a flashback to the times of WWII when their home country was under attack. Looking at this from an American’s perspective, our Silent and Greatest generation were likely thinking of Pearl Harbor. And now we have Gen Z who are currently discovering the impact of 9/11 as they are adults, and the horror that the world had to watch. As a Millennial I’ve tried my best yo explain the difference that day had for Americans and the west was night and day, as the life of an American before that event was carefree. Unfortunately Gen Z had to grow up in a time of anxiety taking control and it has affected a lot to not have the proper demonstration to have some stoicism to push them through ordeals. You can reflect this with any other events like when computers started to be accessible to homes and how that impacted different generations, or the moon landing, etc. However it is important if we prioritize the individual first, but we should still call out if there is a pattern of behavior that needs to be noted to the general group to be aware of how they are perceived to hopefully reflect and improve themselves. Every generation has their strengths and issues to work on, the key is to understand that we do our part to use those skills to help society and to grow to improve those weaknesses into maybe something that can be an asset.
