I put this squarely on Brie Larson and those covering for her, she has no charisma, she’s rude and condescending, she only exists to prove what a Mary Sue looks like.
Meanwhile Marvel was eh, not saying it was horrible but the issue is the character had little dynamics to show both strengths and weaknesses. She just suddenly gets power but there is very little in the character arc that makes anyone want to cheer for her, and she somehow ends up being a pro. If we’re going to compare it to a random Avenger character, let’s do Thor since Brie was being an ass to Chris Hemsworth, Thor had a story arc that made people want to champion for. This is coming from someone who initially didn’t like Thor, he was brash and in his own little world that led to a lot of stupid decisions to being made. However, we see him contrast that when he puts others before himself and he rises up to the challenge not because he was deliberately looking for a fight but he was willing to defend others. Thor ends up winning praise with an arc like that, similar arcs or at least different character growth happens to the Marvel characters before Ms Marvel showed up.
When Brie Larson showed up, it was a horrible mix of an entitled patronizing presence seeing her mix with the cast and then seeing how her character really had very little value to the overall Marvel universe. When she does show up in Endgame, I know I’m not the only person rolling their eyes when Ms Marvel shows up, it’s easy to see they put her in for “Girl power.”
