As someone who majored in a field entertaining, the music was something I did notice about the curtsy mockery clip. Even though I am an American, I recalled I heard that song, and realized it was supposed to be an upbeat version of Zadok the Priest. That song is an important and well regarded anthem of the symbolism of monarchy, it is about celebrating the royal institution that has lasted for over a thousand years, a tradition of anointing the ruler that has been started in ancient biblical times of when Solomon was deemed the first king of the Hebrews. A custom some royals do, rarely, Queen Elizabeth was the last British monarchy to have kept that tradition in her coronation.
The song, just as curtsying to the monarchy, is a symbolism taken seriously. The best way to to put it into an American perspective is to it is similar to how Americans take our national anthem seriously as well as expect others to be respectful during the song being played. The American national anthem though is more about patriotism to the people of the country, our flag doesn’t represent the government like a lot of other national flags, but the flag is a symbolism to the people. Whereas Zadok the Priest and gestures such as curtsying and bowing to the British monarchy is about the deep respect to one anointed of higher power by God himself.
The way these two treated this stunt they might as well have taken the pages out of the Bible and wrote an unflattering poem on the pages in ink. They truly believe everything is lesser than themselves, and tarnish customs that they don’t directly relate to.
