Imagine the alternative: either (1) they stopped swimming before they were dead, but survived; or (2) they kept swimming after they went extinct. [edit] 10:41 "... and for the first time for plesiosaurians, they colonized fresh-water habitats in some regions, surviving right up until the extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs, 66-mllion years ago." So can we actually draw anything from them being in the oceans "right up until their extinction," if some weren't?
