If it keeps on going for longer than it can, or it fails while it can still keep working, then we'd have a major problem with reality being inconsistent. Assuming the universe makes sense, it's safe to say the light will last exactly as long as it can last. So, no need to hope.

  2. The progress bar thing is implicit (to me) in how people used to tell you the time... not 'two forty-five' but 'quarter to three'... a 1/4 of an hour from now, it will be 3 o'clock.
