Can? No. Should? No. Must? No. Will? No. But we should develop the technology to blow up the moon. But hear my argument all the way. Blowing up the moon is REALLY REALLY hard. The amount of energy you would need to actually blow up the moon is mind-blowingly enormous. This video showed that a nuke larger than the biggest ever detonated on earth would just leave a crater on the surface. We definitely can't blow it up. We shouldn't do it. But if we could do it, imagine what else we could do? Developing the technology to blow up the moon would mean we can defend ourselves from any asteroid, send any sized spacecraft to any distance at virtually any velocity (less than the speed of light, obviously), and create objects of virtually limitless size. And if we can do any of those, we can probably solve little problems like all the ones we currently have on earth. We're a lot more limited today. We should develop the tech to blow up the moon. But we absolutely should not use it for such a pointless task: we should use it for all humanity. Thank you for listening,
