  2. I think the reason they did vinyl tops on cars is the poor quality roofs or bad seams on them, they repurposed with a vinyl top. It was hard to get a perfect quality top put on a body back in the day and that's the times you find what they call a triple back car (black top black panels and black interior) I know that's a rare original car for the seams to be that perfect for them to paint the car all black, the tuxedo also with a full black outside and white interior. I'm pretty sure vinyl tops were introduced to save cost on poor manufacturing quality!
