  7. this is another example of instructors putting way too much emphasis on the radios. they start the student out on the very first flight using the radio. my students don't even know there is a radio until about an hour before they are ready to solo. a normal human has plenty to do on his first few lessons without worrying about the radio. instructors think the radio is way too important as well. i tell my students many times that the radio is not going to save your life in an emergency. in fact it is likely to kill you as it did with this guy still talking on the radio right up to the second he stalls and spins into the roof of that warehouse. did the radio help him? the person behind the yoke is the ONLY person who can save you, there is not one person anywhere on the radio can do anything for you so forget the worthless box and FLY THE PLANE!

  15. how hours did you accumulate during those 50 years? your statement sounds like you don't have much experience in civil aviation. there are not many experimental aircraft i would consider owning/flying but the RV is one of them. i am skeptical of your civil aviation experience because i've been flying since 1970 also and have known pilots who died in all kinds of aircraft. actually most of them were NOT experimental because it is rarely the fault of the airplane experimental or not.

  34. how many killed daily on the highway? there is nothing you can do about it so just clean up the mess and move on. amateur pilot who had more money than brains. amateur mistakes and advertised his inexperience with his first few transmissions with ATC. big red flag when you hear a pilot flying in these conditions who is unable to use correct terminology when speaking with ATC. just look at the photos of the guy with tats all over. one look at this guy and no way i would get in any airplane with this guy as PIC. you cannot safely fly into an airport even on a clear VFR night without runway lights, much less on a night approach to IFR minimums. typical amateur mistakes made by wealthy owner/operator of an expensive high performance jet aircraft. flying an aircraft like this in these conditions is a full time job by a professional pilot, not a tatted rock star type who thinks he can be as reckless operating and airplane as he is handling celebrities. look at the smoking wreckage to see the results. there had to be some flight instructors recurrency training centers who could see what was coming with this renegade pilot. how did he get this far in his ratings to be operating an aircraft like this in these conditions? amazing amount of incompetency on full display here. and as with so many of these accidents you can see as they are cleaning up his smoking mess all over this san diego neighborhood it was sunny and clear just a few short hours later. how important was it to get to san diego at 4 a.m.?

  94. it was sunny and clear where they departed to the east and south. it got progressively worse as they passed by bob hope and van nuys airport. as they approached the hills west of van nuys the fog met the ground. the pilot obviously felt intense pressure to get kobe to the game or he would have turned around and flown away from the fog instead of continuing towards it.

  127. if what these ignorant goofballs are saying is true somebody is in huge trouble. you would NEVER have a student pilot in a company 135 cargo aircraft much less flying one. of course it is the news and they always say some stupid ridiculous thing without exception. praising this dumb pilot is another mistake which is typical when they die. i flew these same airplanes for fedx for almost 4 years and had another person with me about 4 or 5 times in 2000 hours of flying. passengers are forbidden unless they are company employees and there is NEVER a time where anybody who is not a company pilot would be at the controls. sounds like only one possible explanation to me. they screwed up BIG TIME! to praise these clowns is a huge mistake IMO.

  146. not a bad commentary for a non aviator but the cessna 182 and the piper saratoge are almost identical as far as controls and flight characteristics and 70 additional horsepower difference between these 2 aircraft is not even enough to notice especially by a novice pilot like kennedy. the only real difference between them is the retractable landing gear of the piper and that is still a very small difference in speed. a likely additional cause of the spatial disorientation is night flight over water or a huge area of few ground lights such as large areas in the western USA with a very sparse population. this is even more deadly than flying into clouds or fog because of the surprise factor. i've read stories about departure on clear night and heading immediately out over the ocean and crashing before the pilot realizing he had no visual refernce on an absolutely beautiful clear night. you can read about this phenomenon without realizing how real it is until you actually experience it for yourself. you can't experience this without flying over large unpopulated areas or open water at night. i live in oregon and had over 1000 hours before i had the benefit of this experience while flying over the eastern oregon desert at night.

  227. pilots don't want to do this and they would not ever unless they are pressured by a wealthy, famous and influential person to do it. people get used to never hearing anyone say no to them when they are rich and powerful. i have been in this position for years and know that if you cause one of these folks to miss their important meeting or event or whatever they are in your aircraft for they will find somebody else to do it next time and you are out of work suddenly. they are upset with you and don't even appreciate that you saved their life. probably the single most difficult part of the job.

  261.  @cdbfullbore  these airplanes are routinely in service for 20 or 30 years, sometimes more. 11 years in service is almost new. these regular inspections you refer to are what they call phase inspections. each year they do different phases so they don't have the aircraft down too long and out of service. if you really knew what you are talking about you would refer to them as such.
