I think the internet has also contributed to these changes. A lot of restaurants are leaning more into delivery through apps, etc. When I was a kid, mall & shopping center parking lots were ALWAYS full. Now they're ghost towns. It's funny - the Vaporwave music genre used this exact nostalgia as a way to sell itself. There was a certain 90's bliss. While those kids may now have rose tinted glasses, they also realize something is off. I honestly think the US is living off the fumes of World War 2. That war really put us in a good position after it was done but now we're running out of the piggy bank. Financially and culturally.
