  4.  @Murdo2112  That's how the 1st Amendment works, but the concept of Freedom of Speech is deeper. Just because we outlaw the state from oppression, doesn't mean we tolerate that same oppression when it comes from a private source. We typically call this "the spirit of the law". People try to tolerate others' speech because we believe no one should be silenced, by any party. Government or otherwise. The US also has "Heckler's Veto" laws to prevent private sources from silencing others' speech. We also have the 3rd Amendment, but we wouldn't tolerate a private entity like Amazon or Google searching or seizing our property, would we?

  5.  @Murdo2112  Well sure, I'm not saying someone should be free from criticism or debate. I'm talking about forms of deplatforming or suppressing speech. Telling someone "it's a private company, they can do what they want" sounds like someone saying "who cares if they're cheating - go play another game". Just because private companies can act this way legally, doesn't mean they're acting ethically or with respect to the basic concept of free speech. People can violate your rights, just as much as a government. The US government is supposed to protect our rights. That includes when violations come from private parties. The 1st Amendment doesn't apply to private entities (for the most part) but we respect others' right to speech. But that's quickly fading as authoritarianism is growing in popularity.

  6.  @Murdo2112  Privately speaking, someone's speech should be respected and tolerated. The law shouldn't have to be a solution, nor can it be without it becoming tyrannical. It's something that should be inherent. Like how we roll our eyes at the crazy man on the street preaching about the end of the world, rather than physically attacking him. We understand the importance of speech, of someone's voice being heard, and most importantly speaking truth to power. It gets fuzzy when there's a war happening because believe me, war censorship definitely still happens today and I don't know if helpful or harming us. I'd say I probably lean more to the side of it's healthy to hear criticism during wartime but I also understand morale issues too.
