Everyone is losing here - Putin's argument "We are against NATO expansion on our door step" he's making MORE likely - NATO's argument "No we weren't" can very much now be laughed at - Germany has had to finally pull its finger out on defence spending - Left-wing people's (e.g. Labour in UK under Corbyn) world view of "Let's all hold hands and sing songs" shown for the childish folly it is - All governments being berated "why aren't you intervening more" by people who still bang on "Iraq was illegal". Normally squeal "the west interferes too much. Acts like the imperialist world police." - We recognise Kosovo. But not Crimea as Russian (when it certainly would vote to be so in a fair vote). We think Northern Ireland is evil evidence of past imperialism. And Israel. Because weren't countries 200 years ago. But Ukraine..... Very few people's views on this are internally consistent with theirs from a year ago. I include myself. I now think Crimea should be Russia. When before was indifferent. I know many Latvians who think they are Russian, not Latvian. None who think the opposite. I'd never asked them before this so learnt.
