@Gardstyle35 That in theory is the councils etc. All 27 have vetoes .... In practise. What Merkel and Macron decide. Behind closed doors. E.g. the joint borrowing. Technically any country could have stopped it. Clearly in practice they couldn't. As they didn't. Despite several not wanting it. I can technically win the lottery twice in a row. It just "happens" to have not occurred yet.

And German guilt. It shouldn't be. But is why Germany feel the need to help out / subsidise other countries. Even non poor ones.

@Gardstyle35 So the final proposal Vs what France and Germany originally decided Is... Original proposal was 500bn. By Germany and France. Is going to be either 670 or 750 (I keep seeing both stated) of which some will be loans rather than grants. Why isn't the answer zero. If countries have veto? Why isn't the answer less than 500b and all in country specific loans the individual country repays. Just with EU guarantees. If the frugal countries had veto. Why didn't the original proposal come from the EU parliament? That can't propose laws. Why did it come from Germany and France. And then the other 25 get a say / input. Coincidence?

@ten_tego_teges Very good point.

@MDP1702 So there are vetoes. But you can't use it without other countries agreeing. So not really a veto. I agree that is the case.

@vitas75 Yes within a country it works the same way too. But within a country a sub-region doesn't pretend it has a veto. That is my point. I know Kent (my county) doesn't have a veto over the whole UK. No one ever pretends it does. I am happy to share "sovereignty" with Sunderland and Aberdeen. If someone told me "The UK is fine. Because it isn't really sharing sovereignty. Because Kent has a veto." That would be lying. The final sentence. I'm just saying pretending countries have vetoes is lying. Either to the public or oneself. Be transparent. Especially if you think it is a plus / good thing. Make that case.
