If you wish to delve into your own mental acuity- the explanations come from a 2017 review paper published in the Journal of Social and Political Psychology by the psychologist and UC Santa Cruz professor Thomas Pettigrew. Sheldon Solomon, who laid the groundwork for the influential Terror Management Theory, and David Dunning, who did the same for the Dunning-Kruger effect.

It's when Dumb people like Trump think they're super smart, because they are so SPECTACULARLY STUPID, they don't even know how much stuff they don't know. Why are Trump supporters rather near or far unable to recognize that he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, namely a megalomaniac, a liar, a grifter, a failure, devoid of lucidity, unintelligible, corrupt and totally uninterested in the well being of Americans? What do you call a head of state who is terrified of a fair and free election?
