  2. Brought tears to my eyes. It's such a sad state really. I think South Korea isn't the best destination for some of the folks defecting from North Korea. But without the knowledge of any other language, I doubt they'd be welcome to any other country, let alone allowed. Hopefully, the bias against these people decreases in South Korea and better financial and other aid becomes available so issues like the one mentioned in video don't happen. If you allow your citizen to work and enter the economy, it's better in long term for the economy as well, despite the initial training/housing expenditure. It isn't just a favour, but a win-win situation.

It's like when a thing is so great, it becomes normal to everybody and no one really notices it except if you were specifically looking for it. MKBHD puts a ton of hidden gems and easter eggs in his videos and I think most people don't identify many of them. Or they'd be taken out of flow. The "What If" haunts them forever and potentially ruins their state of mind for a big chunk of their life. Especially towards the end of heir life. The guilt is unabsolvable. This is why Jeff Bezos has a "Regret Minimisation Framework" that essentially is just that he wants to have minimum regrets at the end of his life. Oh and you get reasoning for why the person believes the point he's making is true. You should obviously look for justification for literally everything you learn. Just not follow literally any and every advice floating around the internet. The reason why you only pick a few main points after reading most books. So that it stays with you longer. Even though I kinda knew these points before but came here to watch these nuances and energy that only Clement brings into his videos.

DHH is also in favor of work-life balance and says he's always had a good 8 hours of sleep, especially in the early days of starting his company. But I agree if you're enjoying the process it's fine. I'm inclined to believe it effects the body more badly if you're doing the kind of work that is boring, repetitive or you simply don't enjoy. I'm curious whether the researches done and studies conducted take this into effect. More often that is the case for employees not entrepreneurs. Like many people working on excel sheets at an investment banking firm. Goldman Sachs was recently in news for the long 13 hour days. I think money tends to be a poor motivator for working long hours for many people. Sure, you're somehow able to pull it off but you don't enjoy the process. Also, congrats on becoming a father.

  162. I agree with Clement that coding interviews are making a leveled field for all. Since, if CS grads especially at a good university would brag about their tons and tons of complex projects and internships, their access to costly tools ,research facilities as a university student, your normal non cs guy from probably a boot-camp or self-taught guy wouldn't stand a chance. You can't compete with their 4 years of college experience. But it is clearly not indicative of that you as a non-cs person can't be a good software engineer given a chance. Infact, Google was the first company that selected Clement if I'm not wrong ,as a software engineer even when he initially wanted a junior dev position at Google (he thought due to lack of dev experience they wouldn't take him for a full fledged role). Many of the companies outright rejected his applications due to him being a boot-camp grad not a cs graduate. The boot-camp market has gotten so much bigger only because coding interviews are a major part of assessing candidates. So you don't need to have a college degree and become a software engineer in just a few months.

It was exciting because this is very rare of an incident to witness yourself, even rarer than the total eclipses that happen once in a year like yesterday's :) I think this is a separate domain at Google. All this stuff, the scaling, infrastructure, etc. is handled by the SREs (Site Reliability Engineers). Pretty interesting stuff.
