Is the answer that there are 12 essentially different triangles with a base of 4 with 3 colors? I mean "essentially different" here up to reflection of the triangle and permutation of the colors. So for instance, BRBG and GBRB would be essentially the same since they are mirror images of each other, and BRBG would be essentially the same as BGBR, RBRG, RGRB, GRGB, and GBGR, since they permute the three colors. So in this example, there are 12 triangles all essentially the same. The 12 essentially different triangles (labeled by first row) are therefore: BBBB BBBG BBGB BBGG BGBG BGGB BBGR BGBR BGRB BGGR BGRG BRGG
