  1.  @SpanasyukO  I'm not sure AC transmission is ever more "efficient" per se, but I'm no expert. It's certainly a lot more cost-effective to step AC up and down in voltage, since transformers are so easy to make. Nowadays DC transmission might actually be viable. But 120 years ago, with no serious electronic logic to speak of, there wasn't really any choice. The "alternative" (Edison) was low-voltage DC, which could never hope to compete with high-voltage AC in the long run.
