  1. One of Bukele's strangest decisions was adopting Bitcoin as legal tender (alongside USD). Very few people in El Salvador use Bitcoin regularly, so it has had little immediate impact, but tying the central bank to a volatile speculative currency is incredibly dangerous. The country also spent tens of millions of dollars buying Bitcoin, which then immediately tanked in value. One problem with a demagogue like Bukele is that he can push anything through, even when he has no idea what he's doing.

  2.  @ayoCC  He didn't give up the national currency. El Salvador was on the USD. He inherited a very bad financial situation to begin with. Unfortunately, introducing the Bitcoin may have made things worse, as most lenders (like the IMF) see it as very high risk.
