  1. I used to drive between Cleveland and Chicago a lot, and I never stopped at Gary. The highway goes right by the steelworks and when the wind is blowing, it stinks. It gives you the impression that the whole city stinks. All you could see from the highway was rusting steel and crumbling concrete. It's the only city that would give me a pit in my stomach every time I drove through it.
