@maxwyght1840 It's not as bad as that. The adrenaline suppresses your immune response to the foreign antivenom, but it won't stop the antivenom from working. It does not rely on your immune system; it is a protein that chemically neutralizes the venom on its own. They had to keep readministering adrenaline simply because they had to keep readministering the antivenom, and he needed another dose each time to prevent anaphylaxis.

I was surprised to find that snakes kill more people than any other kind of animal (unless you count humans as animals or blame mosquitos for diseases they unwittingly spread). Snakes kill more people than dogs even. Scorpions also manage to kill another 3,000 or so per year. Spiders, on the other hand, barely even register. I guess that figures given how incredibly tiny they are. Of course, even if they don't kill you, bites from some spiders can still be debilitating.

Most people have some allergic response to antivenom. Even anaphylaxis is quite common, supposedly over 40% for some antivenoms in the populations most affected by snake bites (in South Asia).
