@Evan-rj9xy Damascus steel is known because it was an outstanding steel in its day, not because it's outstanding today. It's sort of missing the point anyway, because no one today buys swords for purely functional reasons.

@franciscofunari2343 Spring steel was invented like 500 years after Damascus steel. And I didn't say anything about katanas, which were invented even earlier. Anyway, I wasn't trying to claim that Damascus swords were the best swords in the world, just that Damascus steel was an outstanding steel.
