  1.  @Dragrath1  That is possible, but it's interesting to note that spiders vary widely in fluorescence and appear to have evolved the trait multiple times independently. Scorpions however virtually all fluorescesce in essentially the same pattern. If spiders can evolve fluorescence multiple times independently, so can other chelicerates, so the evidence might suggest a single origin for scorpions somewhere in their basal lineage and multiple for arachnids and other chelicerates. But we would need to know more about the genetic basis first.

  2. Don't all organisms metabolize iron and nickel in some way? I wonder what scorpions do with those metals that other animals don't.
