I already watch clickbaity, questionable videos in private mode, not so much because I don't want to promote the channel (they still get a view) but because I don't want to pollute my Youtube recommendations. As for why you get no notifications, you probably have them disabled in your browser settings.

  2. I experienced the change to the algorithm regarding subscriptions differently from a lot of people, I guess. I always used the "Subscriptions" page to track the videos of my subscriptions. For many of those channels, I watch every video, so it doesn't make sense just to go to the home page and hope I catch them all. So when the system changed and stopped promoting subscriptions so much, I literally didn't notice for months until some of the channels started telling everyone to click the notification bell. What is the bell even for? There's already a page for that!
