  1. Even in a clearly SVO language like English, clauses aren't always put in that order. Sometimes grammatical rules dictate a different order, like in the sentence "Charlie is the person whom I saw yesterday." And if you really want to pick nits, inversion can even put an auxiliary verb before the subject, like in "had I not." But English has a pretty formal and restrictive word order. Imagine how much more confusing it could be in a language with an even slightly flexible order. Then imagine trying to generalize over all languages worldwide . . .
