I cannot relate to "cringe comedy" movies and TV at all, like Stepbrothers or Da Ali G. Show or whatever. I think I used to when I was younger, but now instead of making me laugh, the action literally makes me cringe and reflexively turn it off. Why would I want to feel that way? It's almost physically painful. Even though I know the actors are just doing it for my amusement and don't really need sympathy, I can't help it. The schadenfreude seems to be schaden-void.

It is very annoying how the terms "early modern period," "late modern period," "early modernism," "late modernism," "post-modernism," and simply "modern" have so many overlapping and inconsistent definitions. The early modern period maybe began around 1500, following the end of the medieval period. But the relevant art and cultural institutions to this video didn't arise for another 250 years or so. And other historians peg the start of the modern period at 1800, five decades later. And now we are to understand that in literally "modern" times, not only is "modernism" mostly a relic of the past, but even "post-modernism" is pretty old? Who came up with these names?

The Wernher von Braun quote was actually him attributing it to his friend Robert Gilruth of NASA. The Atlantic quotes Braun as saying, "As my friend Bob Gilruth says, we’re reserving 110 pounds of payload for recreational equipment." And learning this just makes the quote even sadder: a Nazi had to take a cue from a successful American man for the perfect misogynistic joke.

@rfrolicarts It's valid, but it's not that good, and it's not really chili. Like, orzo is valid, but it's not that special, and if people started calling it "Italy rice," people should be excused for their confusion.
