@neon-kitty It wasn't a hoax at all. It was just people taking a lame joke from a joke channel seriously. It's no different from people who take Onion headlines seriously.

@Thebolfster But it didn't go down during the Gay Games. I think what actually happened is that some people in the building had poor service due to the concentration of phones there trying to access the internet, so it was really the network that was bad, not Grindr specifically. The maps people posted show outages in around 2 dozen metro areas including Milwaukee, but these are just reports, so we don't know if the people reporting the problem were having problems with Grindr or with the internet in general. And anyway, the fact that there were over 20 other big cities with reported problems flies in the face of the idea that the RNC was the cause.

@azlanadil3646 The RNC is like 50k people. It just can't possibly have that much of an impact on an app with 13 million monthly users. The actual Super Bowl probably has a much bigger effect on their traffic.
