  1. The largest volume, you mean. The surface area is minimized, as you have to cover the whole surface in rope and pitch. In point of fact, a sphere maximizes volume for a fixed surface area, but a flat-bottomed curved round boat like this is probably the closest approximation to a sphere that would float.

  2.  @Gottenhimfella  I can see that. Maximizing floor space in proportion to rope-bound walls. It makes sense, though of course, the fact that the floor is so large is also the reason this boat would never be seaworthy.
