  1. One motion not mentioned is nutation of the tube. We can think of what he called the tube's revolution as its precession, which makes the motion of it bobbing up and down nutation. Even after the transients have become insignificant and even ignoring rolling friction and air resistance, the axis of the tube's rotation will move up and down over time as it precesses. Will this cause a periodic change in the way the dots appear over time?
