  1. You are misunderstanding how the "favorite number" is used. If he chooses 27, then you want his card in the 27th position (the bottom card), which means putting 26 cards on top of it. 26 is 111 in ternary, so you just put it on the bottom each time (obviously).

  2. Oops, ha. Yes, 222 obviously. I'm too used to binary. It's also 100Θ in balanced ternary, if you prefer.
