@drmadjdsadjadi If the takings clause doesn't apply, it is already well established that police are not liable for any damage they cause, but in statute and case law.

If the appellate court's interpretation is correct, the law clearly needs to be changed. It's absurd that this could be legally correct. $5,000 is incredibly insulting, especially when you compare it to the amount the whole operation cost, or the cost of legal defense. And even if the police are not legally required to compensate the Leches, they are obviously still able to if they gave them $5,000 in the first place. it is unfathomable to me how they could be this callous.
