Can you imagine if every time someone wanted to show off a "homemade lightsaber," Disney showed up and smacked it out of their hands? Every time someone wore a costume to a comics convention, lawyers at the gate would strip them and enjoin them from ever dressing up again? That's exactly how this feels. Halicki had absolutely nothing to lose, but she decided to shit all over one of her own fans anyway, just to do it. What a lovely lady. EDIT: I mean, she did get a new car, so maybe she can sell it to cover the legal fees and make a tiny profit. I can't believe that's what she was looking for, though.

@joshyoung1440 Cosplaying as a character and putting that online can be considered copyright infringement, because studios do in fact own the characters in their productions. But unless someone is actually making a movie or something, the studios usually don't care, since if anything it helps promote their product. Also, outfits created for characters in a movie can be copyright (unless they are just normal functional clothing), so like I couldn't sell Spiderman's suit at a Halloween store without a license. That said, the fact that "Eleanor" was represented by multiple different regular production cars (slightly modified) with few if any real character traits does hurt the claim that it is a character. (Just naming something doesn't make it yours.) And just because Halicki could sue doesn't mean that she should have.

@terryarmbruster9719 No, the videos had already been online for some time when he got the cease and desist. Her lawyers were threatening to sue him for copyright violation, and as part of the settlement he agreed not to put the videos back up and to turn over the car.
