Here in Ohio, children of any age can drink alcohol under supervision of their parents. The parents do of course have the same basic parental responsibilities they always do, so if the kid gets drunk, they can face criminal charges. But this even applies in public. The vast majority of restaurants will not serve anyone under 21, but a few actually will with parents' permission, and I did it a few times before I turned 21.

The "Zone of Death" thing is very strange, especially because there is already related precedent. A poacher shot an elk in the Montana part of Yellowstone, but a judge from the District Court of Wyoming tried to try him in front of a jury of Wyoming citizens instead, and dismissed his argument for basically no reason other than there wasn't anything else he could do. There are only about 40 residents in the Wyoming part of Yellowstone, so it wasn't realistic to set up a jury. In the end, the poacher took a plea deal that came with an agreement not to appeal the sixth amendment issue. If someone tries something like this again in Montana, and pushes the issue, I have a feeling they could force a jury of some of those residents. It would be a hassle but not impossible. If someone does it in Idaho, nobody knows what would happen. There have been at least two films and one novel on that premise. The Supreme Court has more textualists on it now than ever before, and they might decide that the indisputable meaning of the Sixth Amendment prevents the federal government (or any government) from prosecuting crimes in that 50 sq mi zone.
