  1. What principle do white LED holiday lights use? As I understand it, a blue LED shining on aa yellow phosphor is usually used to produce white, right? I'm surprising the resulting white still looks good after shining through a layer of pigment.

  2.  @TravisTev  It just depends on the yellow. If the resulting spectrum has a lot of blue and a lot of yellow and not much else, it seems like the pigment might not give you the color you expect. For instance, a green pigment could end up looking black. Obviously it doesn't look that way, at least for the strand he bought, but I'm a little surprised how close he managed to come to the look he wanted.
